This stoneware mug features a decorating technique called Mishima, in which thin lines are cut into the clay and then filled with underglaze to creative the illustration. The bottom of the piece and the quail imagery also have sgraffito lines etched into the design.

Called the "California Mug" for its poppies and California quail, this entire mug has been decorated with etching and Mishima lines, later filling in with highlight colors of orange, yellow and green. Handmade and hand-etched with quail, bees and poppies, the piece is covered with a clear glaze on the outside and a teal blue glaze on the inside.
