Stoneware mug, made on the potter's wheel and then hand-etched in my woodcut style using a traditional technique called sgraffito. The imagery is drawn through applied underglaze to the clay underneath.

Both sides of this mug are etched. On one side is a swirling bee; on the other two stacked quail bordered with checks. All hand-etched, the imagery on this mug is etched in black and white and then covered with a matt clear glaze. The other areas of the mug, handle and interior are glazed with a bright cobalt blue, giving a nice contrast to the matt glaze on the etched areas.
