Patricia Griffin is a ceramic artist in Cambria, on California's central coast, working in large-scale sculptural and wall-mounted forms rich in pattern, texture, and imagery.

Since 2022, Griffin has completed four public art commissions for medical facilities in California. Poppy View (2023), a 16-foot array of wall-mounted ceramic disks, was followed by Swirl (2023), her largest installation to date — a wall of overlapping, highly patterned sycamore leaves. Leaves in Motion, created in collaboration with an art consultant for a new healthcare facility in central California, features site-specific wall tiles shaped as large leaves sized to fit within architectural columns. Tile Botanical comprises 10 hand-etched wall tiles of varying sizes, each illustrating flora and fauna native to the Orange County area of California.

Griffin is currently completing four large-scale installations commissioned by Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco.

Her ongoing studio work includes two collections represented by The Vault Gallery in Cambria: Dreamscapes, a series of ceramic paintings charting imagined maps in bright graphic imagery, and Cairns: Stacked Columns — sculptural towers up to eight feet tall, each built from 12 or more hand-etched pieces threaded through a steel armature.

Griffin's most recent body of work explores landscape and memory, developed during a year-long 2024 residency with the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve and shown in a 2025 solo exhibition at Cambria Center for the Arts.

Her signature technique, sgraffito — hand-etched surface imagery — grew out of her early career in functional ceramics and remains central to all of her work today, from tableware to eight-foot cairns.
