ARTIST STATEMENT

I love that feeling when a familiar trail suddenly turns onto a new path — when all the senses snap to attention. I'm not lost, but I'm completely present in what's happening around me.

That tension is what my work is about: the moment between lost and found, when paying close attention brings surprises and leads somewhere unexpected.

My pieces tell stories of finding one's way. They're wheel-thrown and sgraffito-carved with landscapes, plants, and animals — layers of imagery built up through etching, painting, and glaze. Some are collaged before the final firing with bits of maps and found imagery, not to mark literal trails, but to trace where the hand has been.

I've also built that idea upward — into tall sculptural totems that carry the colors and creatures of the California coast.

In all of it, the delight of discovery keeps me moving. Each step informs the next.
