This piece is part of the Landscape Collection inspired by my year-long residency on the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve, one of the last unspoiled public open spaces along the California coast. Display or use as a vase.

THE STORY: From my home and studio, I can walk along a path up to the high trail of the preserve. In the spring, it's a stroll through a green hillside threaded with gold and dotted with wildflowers.

At the top, the path leads into one of the last remaining native forests of Monterey Pine in the country. On this vessel, the pine is represented by an embossed sprig at the top of the piece. On the other side, leaves of a light transparent green float along a "ground" of golden brown. One edge shows a peek of swirling blue – a glimpse of the ocean through the pines.

ABOUT: This vessel is handmade from slabs of clay. After forming, I cut and altered the piece to add embossed areas with plants and branches. I added other marks and stamps to give visual interest to the form and lead the viewers eye through the "landscape" of the vessel.

The piece is multi-fired with underglazes and glazes to achieve various colors and textures. Like the landscape it represents, it looks different from every angle.

SIZE: 9" H x 6.5" W x 3.25"D

Piece will be shipped/delivered after "On the Trail" show closed on Feb. 2.
