This piece is part of the Landscape Collection inspired by my year-long residency on the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve, one of the last unspoiled public open spaces along the California coast. Display or use as a vase.
THE STORY: It's not uncommon to be walking along the trails here in short-sleeves while the rest of the country is already feeling the onset of cold winter days.
This vessel represents the "Second Summers" we often have, creating for joyful wanderings outdoors. It's a time of golden afternoons and pink sunsets.
ABOUT: This vessel is handmade from slabs of clay. After forming, I cut and altered the piece to add embossed areas with plants and branches. I added other marks and stamps to give visual interest to the form and lead the viewers eye through the "landscape" of the vessel.
The piece is multi-fired with underglazes and glazes to achieve various colors and textures. Like the landscape it represents, it looks different from every angle.
