This piece is part of the Landscape Collection inspired by my year-long residency on the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve, one of the last unspoiled public open spaces along the California coast. Display or use as a vase.
THE STORY: Depending upon the season, the trails along the western coastline will go from browns and golds to blues and greens – changes captures on this vessel and punctuated with burnished circles of gold luster.
ABOUT: This piece is handmade from slabs of clay. After forming, I cut and altered the piece to add embossed areas with plants and branches. I added other marks and stamps to give visual interest to the form and lead the viewers eye through the "landscape" of the vessel.
The piece is multi-fired with underglazes and glazes to achieve various colors and textures. Like the landscape it represents, it looks different from every angle.
The final firing of this piece was done to add circles of gold luster to lead the eye around the pot.
